No Discussion in the Game of Poker

An unusual rule was implemented at Bellagio where people playing poker online were not allowed to have discussion while playing. Considering that conversation is really part of the game, so what is the point?

Conversations in poker, help a player access the strength and weakness of his opponents. In conversation a player will determine what the best play is if his opponent will think out loud what he has in his hand.

However, this rule of banning the discussion during the game does not intend to apply during an ordinary game but only on tournament game, their reason is that conversation will affect other players in the tournament setting. This is what the proponents use why they implemented the ban.

They say that the conversation will affect the outcome of the game of others that are in the tournament. In live table games, it will surely have an effect on the game, especially if the game is in pot limit and in no limit games.

However, in my opinion I am sure that everyone has the choice to use or not this kind of strategy. Probably their reason behind this is flawed. Maybe they should ban the players playing with their sunglasses on too. Basically, not everybody can wear sunglasses indoors. Conversation in here can be applied as an act of illusion, so is the use of sunglasses. The difference that the sunglasses and the conversation have is that conversation is a verbal language whereas sunglasses are a non verbal language.

The game they are playing is poker. Psychology is part of the game of poker. If the verbal aspect of poker is removed basically, the most important component of the game is also removed. Everyone should take into consideration that it is not just what the players have to say, but how and why the players have said it. One player that can measure the process of conversation is like a skill that's being learned. This can also affect the major loss and major win of the player.

I am not suggesting that players should say what specific hands they've got. But in sports, a good communicator helps to win the game. Take for example in basketball, Michael Jordan is a good communicator, he communicates well with his teammates to apply their strategy. This strategy will help them win the game.

If they want to handle too much verbal exposure in the game of poker, they should rely on other rules regarding exposing the player's hand. Live tournaments are implanting this kind of rule and they are giving penalties to those who don't follow.

This is a game of poker. Poker players are supposed to bluff. Bluffing is part of the game of poker. If you don't want to talk and only want a quiet time while playing, play something else like, solitaire.
